The character of Putney
Putney High Street is a solid bus-lane corridor with heavy pedestrian crossings, making it a poor place to wait even briefly; the Embankment alongside the river is calmer and better suited to a pickup. Putney Bridge itself queues at peak times in both directions. Streets rising south towards the Heath are wider and increasingly residential, a contrast to the dense shopping stretch below.
- The High Street is unsuitable for waiting — the Embankment nearby is the calmer option.
- Putney Bridge queues in both directions at peak commuter times.
- Boat Race day closes the Embankment near the start line.
- Putney sits within the London ULEZ, included in the quoted fare.
