The character of Hereford
The centre is compact around High Town and the cathedral close, with short-stay bays covering most casual waiting on streets kept largely for pedestrians during the day. The Wye bridges are the fixed crossing points, and traffic backs up at either during the standard peaks. Roads out of the city in most directions are single-carriageway for some distance before reaching a motorway.
- Cars hold near High Town or the cathedral close and move to the door on your call.
- The Wye bridges are the fixed crossing points and the main source of delay at peak times.
- Long-distance departures need extra margin, since the nearest motorway is a genuine drive away.
