The character of Downpatrick
English Street and the streets around the cathedral climb steeply and narrow toward the top, tight for a car and short on kerbside space near the cathedral itself. The lower town around the Market and Saint Patrick Centre is more open. Downpatrick Racecourse, on the edge of town, has its own grounds and car parking that suit an event-day pickup better than the streets do.
- English Street climbs steeply toward the cathedral — the car holds lower down.
- Downpatrick Racecourse has its own car park, used on race days instead of the approach roads.
- The Saint Patrick Centre area allows straightforward kerbside waiting outside event times.
- There is no mainline rail here — journeys connecting to a train route through Belfast.
