The character of Carrickfergus
The town centre around North Gate and the castle is compact, historic and easy to cross on foot but tight for a waiting car. The marina has clearer space and is the more comfortable pickup point for a private booking. Away from the front, the residential streets rising from the coast are straightforward, while the A2 itself carries the bulk of the town's through-traffic at speed.
- The marina offers clearer waiting space than the streets right by the castle.
- North Gate and the old town are compact and easiest reached on foot from a nearby stop.
- Castle events bring short bursts of congestion directly around the harbour.
- The A2 coast road carries the town's main traffic, faster than any route through the centre.
