The character of Whitechapel
Whitechapel Road itself is a bus corridor with market stalls narrowing the carriageway for much of its length, and stopping directly outside the Royal London Hospital is restricted to emergency vehicles. Side streets toward Cavell Street and New Road give a car somewhere legitimate to hold. Brick Lane, at the western end, is pedestrian-heavy at weekends and best approached from Osborn Street rather than driven through.
