The character of Canning Town
Canning Town station sits at the centre of a large, still-evolving junction, with the A13 and the approaches to both Thames tunnels converging nearby. Hallsville Quarter's shops and the surrounding new-build streets have more legitimate standing space than the older parts of Canning Town further from the station. We hold there rather than at the station forecourt itself, which is dominated by buses.
- The station forecourt is dominated by buses; the car holds near Hallsville Quarter instead.
- Two river crossings serve Canning Town now — the Blackwall and Silvertown tunnels.
- We check both crossings before confirming timing for any journey south of the river.
- Rathbone Market's surrounding streets offer more reliable standing than the older terraces.
